A bear that had been threatening a county resident’s yard and children was killed last Tuesday by a Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputy.
On May 18, around 9:15 a.m., 911 Dispatch received a call from someone reporting a bear in her yard, located off of Highway 97 around milepost 17 in Klickitat County. Sheriff Bob Songer requested a hound handler to track the bear.
KCSO Deputy Erik Beasley responded to the call. After he arrived at the residence, he was able to spot the black bear in the yard. Washington State Wildlife Agent Dan Bolton was also in route to assist Beasley.
Beasley was contacted for an update on the bear; Beasley responded he could still see the bear in the yard of the complainant’s property. The deputy was advised to dispatch the bear, which he did.
Wildlife Agent Dan Bolton took possession of the bear for biological testing. Contrary to some social media reports, the bear was not a cub.
