According to preliminary data received by NOAA’s National Weather Service in Pendleton Oregon, temperatures at Goldendale averaged warmer than normal during the month of December.
The average temperature was 32.4 degrees which was 2.5 degrees above normal. High Temperatures averaged 38.9 degrees, which was 3.1 degrees above normal. The highest was 63 degrees on the 2nd. Low temperatures averaged 25.8 degrees, which was 1.9 degrees above normal. The lowest was 5 degrees, on the 31st.
There were 25 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees. There were 4 days when the high temperature stayed below 32 degrees.
Precipitation totaled 2.55 inches during December, which was 0.64 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation -at least .01 inch- was received on 23 days with the heaviest, 0.48 inches reported on the 20th.
Precipitation in 2021 totaled 13.08 inches, which is 4.14 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at Goldendale has been 6.29 inches, which is 1.04 inches below normal.
Snowfall totaled 8.3 inches with at least 1 inch of snow reported on 4 days. The heaviest snowfall was 4.0 inches reported on the 16th. The greatest depth of snow on the ground was 5 inches on the 22nd.
The outlook for January from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for below normal temperatures and above normal precipitation. Normal highs for Goldendale during January are 37.1 degrees and normal lows are 24.5 degrees. The 30 year normal precipitation is 3.06 inches.
