Goldendale police officers investigating a domestic violence assault today chased a man on foot across the primary school playground, catching and arresting him near the high school track.
Officer Kelsey Rooks and Chief Jay Hunziker responded to a domestic violence assault complaint with injuries at about 6:30 a.m. today. The incident occurred at the apartment complex in the 800 block of South Schuster. The suspect was identified as Joey Russell and was gone from the area when police arrived.
At about 10:20 a.m. Russell was spotted by law enforcement at the apartment complex. Officer Rooks, Chief Hunziker, Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Kaley and Bianchi, and Washington State Patrol Sgt. Hovinghoff responded to that area. Officer Rooks initiated a foot pursuit when Russell ran from her. Russell ran through the primary school playground areas, in which children were present at the time. The schools were immediately contacted and directed to lockdown.
Russell was apprehended without incident by Officer Rooks and Deputy Kaley near the high school track. Russell was transported to the Klickitat County jail and booked on the charge of Assault 4th Degree DV.
