Arlene Dolan, passed away peacefully at Providence Horizon House in Anchorage, Alaska, on September 14, 2020. Arlene had been a resident of Birch Cottage, a memory care unit, for nearly four years.
Arlene was born July 20, 1924, in Bassano, Alberta, Canada, to Schuyler and Marion Royston. She was raised in Payette, Idaho, and graduated from Fruitland High School in 1942.
Arlene met Bob Dolan, and they were married on June 20,1945. They moved from the Yakima Valley area to Goldendale in 1948, where they continued long careers as educators. Arlene returned to the classroom later in life, after raising four children.
After Bob passed away on September 19, 2001, Arlene continued to stay busy with trips to the farm in Idaho to visit her mom and relatives. She also remained active with several of her colleagues in Delta Kappa Gamma, raising funds for educational scholarships. Of course, as an art teacher, she continued painting, stained-glass projects, and producing Christmas wreaths for local bazars. Springtime always found Arlene busy with planting flowers and working in the yard. Grandchildren were doted on and visits were anticipated with projects, books (she was also a school librarian), and new beach towels each summer.
Arlene is survived by children Steve Dolan of Goldendale, Marcia Liebl of Wenatchee, Washington, Rob (Jan) Dolan of Eagle River, Alaska, and Bill (Shari) Dolan of Carson, Washington. She also leaves behind several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Lois Royston of Payette, Idaho.
Due to the COVID-19 considerations, a graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery is expected by summer of 2021. Arlene will be placed next to her beloved husband, Bob, at that time. An announcement will be published at a future date.
