On September 1, 2020, Curtis Walter Dew passed away at his home in Goldendale after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Quitman, Mississippi on August 24, 1955 to Samuel W. and Joyce (McCarra) Dew.
Curt married his high school sweetheart of five years, Tina M. Read, on January 1, 1977. They built their home on the Read family farm near Pachuta, Mississippi. They moved to Maryland in 1987 for his job as an aircraft Inspector with DynCorp International. After Curt retired in 2017, they moved to Washington State to escape heat and humidity and to enjoy the beautiful Pacific Northwest. They stayed with good friends in Auburn, Washington, before taking a long retirement celebratory trip to Europe. Upon return, they settled in Olympia for a year and then discovered his cancer had become very serious. Wanting to get back to a more rural, peaceful life, they found the perfect place and moved to Goldendale in January 2019.
Curt loved the property with views of Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood, plus the Simcoe range. They looked forward to Curt getting better so he could fish, hunt, and ride his motorcycle. He loved birdwatching with Tina at home and with the local birding group. He also looked forward to sharing biking and hiking with Tina when his health permitted. During their long marriage, Curt and Tina were inseparable. They loved traveling all over the U.S. and to many foreign countries to enjoy nature and the fun of city life.
Curt was multitalented and could build or fix almost anything. With his wife's help, they built their own homes in Mississippi and Maryland, from footings to roofing and all in between. He had such a kind heart and a great smile and was well loved and respected by all who knew him.
After Curt and Tina moved to Goldendale, they began attending Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he eventually was baptized and became a member.
Curt is survived by his wife, Tina of Goldendale; his sister, Susan Tindle of Quitman, Mississippi; his sister, Diann Maples of Laurel, Mississippi; and many friends across the country. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Joyce Dew.
Interment services for Curt were held at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Goldendale, September 9. He will be tremendously missed.
