Mary Bess Gearhart

Mary Bess Gearhart passed away on August 18, 2021 after a short battle with pneumonia. Mary was born on May 18th, 1942, in Hagerman New Mexico to Bess Buel and Mary Lorena Stamey. In 1969 Mary met Merle Gearhart after his active service duty. Mary was living in Yakima, Washington, with her two children Lynn and Rodney. They moved to Fowler Ohio to be with Merle. Merle and Mary were married on December 21, 1969. After living in Ohio for six years, they all moved back to Yakima for a short time. After living in Yakima, they moved to Goldendale. After employment changes for Merle, they moved to Auburn, Washington, where they lived for 17 years. After Merle’s retirement, they moved back to Goldendale.

Mary enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, going to bingo at the American Legion, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Merle Gearhart of Goldendale; her son Mark (Tina) Gearhart of Waco, Texas; son-in-law John (Cindy) Halm of Goldendale; grandchildren Adam (Jennifer), Andy, Noah (Sasha), Tyler, and Skylar; great-grandchildren Jennifer, Jack, and Gage.

Preceding her in death are her parents, Mary’s first husband Marvin Baxter, her two children Lynn Halm and Rodney Baxter, and her brothers Bobby and Dennis.

There was a graveside service held on August 24 at the Goldendale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in memory of Mary Gearhart.
