Ronald Jacob Bazzel, Sr. passed away on April 15, 2022, at home in Goldendale.
He was born on March 13, 1947, to Erving Jacob Bazzel and Jewel Martha (Cadwallader) Bazzel in Goldendale. At the age of 16, Ron volunteered with the Goldendale Fire Department. He graduated from Goldendale High School in 1966 then served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, from 1967 to 1973, Company L 8th Signal Battalion, MOS: Vehicle Repairman. Ron returned to Goldendale, and except for his time in the military, lived his entire life in the house he was raised. He worked at the aluminum plant for 31 years. He was a caretaker at New Hope Farm for several years and was dedicated to “his boys” at Joy House. Mr. Bazzel also worked as a driver for Mount Adams Transportation.
Ron was a long-time active member of Louis Leidl American Legion Post in Goldendale. His service as a firefighter and EMT spanned 36 years with both the Goldendale Fire Department (1991-1994) and Rural 7 (1983-1991 and 1995-2020). Ron loved hunting, fishing, camping, and being with his family. He had a heart for other people, and much of his life was spent in service to others.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Erving and Jewel Bazzel. He is survived by his children Melinda Bergeron (Mark) of Coos Bay, Oregon; Ronda Gayton (David) of Chesapeake, Virginia; and Ronald J. Bazzel, Jr. of Goldendale. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at Rural 7 Fire Hall at 1 p.m., with a graveside at Mountain View IOOF Cemetery in Goldendale at 3 p.m. To send condolences to the Bazzel family, please visit www.gardnerfh.com.
