Zillah was a sea of purple as the Goldendale cross country girls and boys teams took to the track for their second league meet last week.
Led by senior Ellie Rising, the senior girls squad of Rising, Kim Chestnut, Abby Hedges, Jade Smith, and Savannah Ross brought home the team trophy, placing first, second, fourth, fifth, and sixth.
"The girls are running really strong this year," said Coach Juli Rising. "This is the toughest point in the season, with people sick, and hurt, but they come out every week and they push themselves and they're having an amazing season."
The boys team was up next, and they definitely didn't disappoint. Sophomore Alden Williams led the team, ending up in a sprint at the finish with senior Sterling Beasley for fourth and fifth place in the race. They were closely followed by senior Corbin Riley, junior Austin Williams, freshman Nick Bowdish, and junior Camden Orozco in sixth, seventh, eighth, and 11th place. Dema Thayer and Ian Schumacher rounded out the boys team.
"We have a lot of depth on the boys team, which really helps them push each other," said Coach Rising. "Whoever is having a good race pushes the rest of the boys on the team that day."
The boys team also brought home the trophy, with a total of 25 points.
Cross country will be in action again on October 17 at Royal.
