This past week the Goldendale Golf team held the last league tournament of the season before they head into Districts. Being on their own home course proved to be helpful as each athlete moved from hole to hole.
The golf gods were on the Wolves side last Wednesday and gave them one heck of a day to play. The sun was shining with warm weather and no wind, giving them perfect conditions to get the ball onto the green each time. Every one of the Wolves played their hearts out and left it all on the field. Their scores showed that every minute they have been practicing was worth it. Three of the Wolves scored personal records. Starting with Christian Green who played very well and ended up 9th overall. Next on the list was Logan Telford, right behind his teammate coming in 8th. Jackson Large tied for 6th place after shooting a great game. Then came senior Myles Lee who grasped a 3rd place finish overall. And the big man on top was Ike O’Leary. Ike is a sophomore with a lot of years under his belt on this course and it helped him take 1st place in the whole tournament by 5 strokes. As a team the Wolves exceeded their very first tournament team score by 60! That is a huge feat and an amazing accomplishment for the team. For the lone wolf, aka Sara Hiebert, the only lady wolf placed 3rd overall in the tournament, an excellent finish for her as she held her own on the course.
This tournament was also senior night and two will graduate this year from the golf team. Seniors Sara Heibert and Myles Lee have represented GHS with integrity, respect, and heart every time they play in any game. This season will be one for the books as they finish out the year. The team will have already played in the district tournament in Suncadia Monday, May 9. We are proud of all these golfers and their accomplishments!
