Hats off to local quilters

To the Editor:

The Klickitat Valley Fire Victim’s Fund recently received a $1,466 donation from the Klickitat County Quilters. This donation is the result of a year’s worth of hard work by this group of dedicated ladies. It turns out that the making of this unique work of art was only the beginning of the project. Not only did they make the quilt, they also marketed it. You could hardly attend an event in Klickitat County without seeing this beautiful quilt on display and raffle tickets being aggressively sold by the very ladies who put it together. It turns out that the winning ticket, which was drawn at this year’s Klickitat County Fair, was purchased at the Maryhill Winery when the quilt was on display there during Fathers Day.

This major donation to the Fire Victims Fund adds to the ability of the fund to help victims of fire get immediate cash for necessities until insurance or other resources come into play.

This donation and others that happen throughout the year are examples of how the people of our community step up to help our neighbors when they need it the most. You all should be proud of yourselves.

If you know any of the quilters, give them a pat on the back, and be sure to buy a raffle ticket for next year’s quilt.
