Saturday Market meeting set to address issues for upcoming year

A public meeting for the purpose of discussing the reorganization and relocation of Goldendale's Saturday Market will be held on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Goldendale Library meeting room.

The Market opened on June 18, 2005, at Vern Markee Park, with nine vendors and 90 customers. By the end of the 2008 season, the average vendor count was 27, with 400 customers.

The property on Simcoe Drive behind Goldendale Grind Espresso became available, and the Market moved to that location. The 2009 opening was strong, but by the middle of the season vendors began to leave because there was no protection from the winds or hot summer sun. By the end of 2010, there was no doubt to organizers that the Market again needed to relocate.

Questions about the Market's future will be addressed at the Jan.13 meeting.
