Announcing G3: a new idea for Goldendale growth

Editorial

The Goldendale Sentinel is starting a civic action organization tentatively called Greater Goldendale Growth, or G3.

We don't presume to take the place of anybody or take up slack from anyone else out in the community. We've always appreciated each and every effort, including those that have stalled. Anything that gets out there and gets any kind of motion going is very useful because it keeps the fire lit on the issues.

We want to establish an enterprise that is free from the agendas of public organizations while appreciating all that is done by government agencies and existing public organizations. Necessarily, though, all of those have constraints. As Mayor Parton has said, there's only so much she can do in her official capacity. The city council can only do so much. The county has its boundaries as well, all of which are to be respected.

We want something that says, "Here's where we're going. Lead, follow, or get out of the way." We're going to put everything we can behind making this happen, continuing to work as closely as we can with the city and county and anybody who feels like helping. We're going to be the cheerleader who doesn't let the flag fall or enthusiasm drop. We will not unilaterally set goals; that's the job of all concerned. Once they are established, however, we will be tenacious in seeing them through.

We will not accept an attitude of futility reflected in comments like, "There's nothing we can do. There's no solution possible." It's not possible to accept that as an answer. There's always a solution if you have enough people inspired, motivated, and truly committed. We believe commitment is a key part of it. In announcing this, we are saying we've reached that commitment point. We're going to do this by the Grace of God and through the help of the community.

It sounds like a platitude, and it's true nonetheless: what is good for the whole is good for the individual. That's the reality. We're going to show people that on a bottom line they can relate to.

If you'd like to get involved with G3, give us a call or send us an email.
