To the Editor:

Imagine going to work in the morning; a sick child stays with a babysitter next door while your other children go to school as usual. Your wife leaves for her job in Toppenish; your dog runs loose in your fenced back yard. Sound familiar?

Suddenly you hear fire sirens in town, and you look out to see a wall of flames between you and your home. The wind is howling at 50 miles per hour as it empties into the west end of the Yakima Valley and the little community of White Swan. A frightening thought.

Twenty homes burned the other day. Eighteen burned all the way down to the foundation. No electricity. No water. Nothing left that you had taken for granted.
