High Prairie firehouse sale will have everything from nuts to bolts

Hear's Goldendale

I've been on vacation the last couple of weeks, and that's why you haven't seen my column. On our trip we noticed that there are many depressed little towns, which made Goldendale look good. Seeing these other areas confirmed that we live in a beautiful and special area.

Are you feeding stray or feral cats? Catlink offers spay/neuter & vaccinations for NO CHARGE to caregivers in our community who are providing food and shelter to homeless cats. Catlink loans humane live traps and provides instructions to trap feral cats to bring to clinics.

Cats going through the program have their ear “tipped” which involves removing about ¼ inch of the right ear so they can be easily identified as already spayed/neutered. Cats must be returned to their caregiver as Catlink’s shelter cannot accept any more cats at this time.

Catlink also has a barn/shop cat adoption program for people looking for natural rodent control. All cats are spay/neutered and vaccinated and there is no adoption fee for barn cats.

To schedule cats for spay/neuter clinic, email catlink@mac.com or call (541) 298-8253. Caregivers must sign an anesthesia release agreement that they do not own the cats. This service is not available for personal pets. Catlink is an all-volunteer division of Rowena Wildlife Clinic that is dedicated to homeless and feral cats throughout the Columbia River Gorge area. Please visit our website catlink.org for more information.

As of May 2, the Goldendale Community Library began their new hours and will now be open six days each week, Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day.

Come to the High Prairie Fire House Sale this weekend May 14-15 beginning at 9 a.m. on both days, closing at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. The food booth will open one hour earlier to provide cinnamon rolls and hot beverages while waiting for the sale to start. The sale will be held at Alecksons Haybarn at 783 Centerville Highway. There are plenty of signs to make it easy to find.

The heart of the Firehouse Sale is the huge “130-Family Garage Sale.” Everything from nuts and bolts to pianos and trailers has found its way into the sale at one time or another. The food booth is another popular draw. Myrin Bentz's bratwurst will get top billing as usual. Last year's popular vegetarian dish – Kluski – will return. There will be plenty of homemade pies, cinnamon rolls and other baked goods, soft drinks, coffee, and ice cream.

K.L.C.K’s Talk Shows for the coming week will be featuring Marty Hudson from Klickitat County’s Noxious Weed program this Thursday May 12 at 9 a.m. Next Tuesday’s show on May 17 will be our Klickitat County Commissioners live from the courthouse.

The Goldendale Chamber Forum Luncheon for Monday May 16 at Gee’s restaurant at noon will be Jim Hill from the Central Klickitat Conservation District, updating us on Brooks Park.
