Truck catches on fire at Biggs Junction

A semi-truck carrying canned corn erupted into flames late Wednesday morning at the Pilot gas station in Biggs, Ore.

“The fire started in the engine,” a Wasco County Sheriff’s deputy on the scene said. “In about five minutes, it had spread to the interior and outside right edge of the truck.”

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

Huge plumes of black smoke from the truck could be seen from high up on the Maryhill grade near Goldendale. Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters directed traffic around the intersection at the Pilot station, though traffic on Highway 97 was not stopped except to allow emergency vehicles to gain access to the fire.
