City council takes first pass at budget

 


The City Council meeting Monday night was short, despite the subject: the 2012 budget.

The preliminary 2012 budget will be available at the City Hall Nov. 18.

“The estimated expenditures do not exceed the estimated revenues and the available cash reserves,” stated City Administrator Larry Bellamy. In other words, the preliminary budget for 2012 is balanced.

And the only council member with a question about it was Steve Johnston.

His question concerned funding for the city’s residential streets and whether that money being collected by a 0.5 percent sales tax was indeed being put aside, as the council had discussed it would in the past. This sales tax was voted in about 15 years ago...
