School district has plan to deal with state budget cuts


Two hundred thousand dollars is what Superintendent Mark Heid expects will be cut from Goldendale School District’s (GSD) budget next year.

Governor Chris Gregoire came out with a proposal for budget cuts to K-12 education, but for now those proposals have been tabled and no cuts have been made.

This year, the state issued a 1.9 percent cut to schools but left it up to school administrators to figure how to implement it. That percentage equated to about three days of pay for teachers, says Heid. However, the school board came up with a plan to include three professional development days, which are optional days that teachers can come in and work to make up for the cut in pay.
