Larry Schroder

Obituary

Larry Keith Schroder passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at home with his family beside.

Larry, the second son of Henry and Marjorie (Thompson) Schroder, was born in Goldendale on July 25, 1945. He attended Goldendale schools, graduating with the class of 1963. He played football in high school. In Ag shop, he made a squeeze lift to pick up the hay, the family still uses it today. He would take his vacations during June so he could help the family put the hay into the barn. He also spent many summers while young with his grandparents, Floyd and Louie Thompson, working on the farm where he learned to take care of equipment, which he did faithfully.

Larry served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. He received an expert marksmanship award.

Upon returning home from the service, he returned also to his employment with the SP & S Railroad, which he was working for when he left. After 41 years and a couple of name changes, he retired from Burlington Northern-Santa Fe at the age of 60.

On June 10, 2002, he married Linda Davis. Linda brought three children into Larry’s life, Michele, David and Michael.

He set up his home on property he purchased from his Uncle Laurence and Aunt Madge Schroder, land his father sold to Laurence after their father, August Schroder’s death. He especially enjoyed watching the wildlife from his living room. He had room for a large garden and home-canned much of it with his wife, Linda. Larry raised and sold some cattle, which all had names. To keep busy after retirement, he would cut and trim trees on the family farm and sell the wood. In the fall, he would spend time camping and elk hunting with his brothers, Dougg and Steve. His granddaughter, April, would spend summer and school vacations with them, which gave Larry much enjoyment.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda of Goldendale, Neva Riddle, Linda’s mother at the family home and children Michele (Eric) Tedrowe of Reno, NV, David Davis of Vancouver, WA, and Michael Tuttle of Goldendale, WA. He is also survived by his six brothers, Russell (Karen), Steve (LaWanna), Gregg, Dougg, and Brett of Goldendale and Donn (Tracy) of Naches, WA. His seven sisters Maureen (Stan) Baker of Chehalis, WA, Linda (JP) Enderby, Barbara (LeRoy) Fields, Sheila (Bill) Beyerlin, Julie (Gary) Metz, Susan (Jim) Cronin, and Karla (Mark) Hoctor all of Goldendale, WA, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel on Saturday, January 14, with interment following at Mt. View Cemetery.
