To the Editor:

I noted with interest that in The Sentinel’s current issue, publisher Lou Marzeles declined to take a public position on the upcoming gay marriage bill. It would be a lose-lose proposition for the publisher, given that the bill seems likely to pass—as a majority of state residents support the idea—and Mr. Marzeles might alienate the approximately 33 percent of Klickitat County voters who are not social conservatives. The middle ground is seen as safe ground, but innovation, leadership, and lively discussion never thrives there.
