Mayor intervenes in custody dispute over dog

DOG WITH TWO HOMES: Bear, renamed Eve by Dogs of the Gorge, has been returned to her original owners.

A dog at the center of heated emotions in the community, with two sets of owners seeking to retain custody of her, was returned Friday to the original family.

The story gained attention—and sparked sharp reaction—after a story on the dog and her situation first ran last week in The Sentinel.

The dog, named Bear, was staying with a nephew of the original owners while they were out of town seeking medical treatment. After Bear went missing on New Year’s Eve, the nephew said they did not worry too much since the dog was raised in a country setting, and they figured she would return. After a couple of days, the nephew says he was given the number for the “dogcatchers,” as he explain...
