Errors key in Lyle-Wishram opening loss to Stevenson

YOUNG ARMS: Manager Dan Ferguson works with a large number of potential pitchers on pick-off moves during practice last week. The team had 19 players vying for varsity time.

It was a cold day for the start of the baseball season in Lyle and some of the Cougar gloves must have been a little stiff as Stevenson parlayed seven hits into 16 runs to defeat the Cougars 16-4 on Monday.

The Cougars have a host of young arms this year with 20 boys out for baseball and not much opportunity for a junior varsity schedule. Four Cougars pitched on Monday, including Ricky Wolff, who saw a lot of time on the mound in 2011. Also pitching were Justin Mills and Dustin Mutch, both who are experienced from last year and a promising new arm with Jacob Armour.

The only player lost to graduation was catcher Jorge Gutierrez. His spot will be taken by Travis Armour or Gabe Montoya who...
