Horse breeder charged with animal cruelty


On Monday, March 19 horse breeder Nancy Skakel made a preliminary appearance in Superior Court for the charges against her; one felony count and 19 misdemeanor counts related to her treatment of horses on her White Salmon property.

On Feb. 15, Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office seized 19 horses from her. Since then, some public comment has challenged the assertion that the horses were maltreated, though the charges were primarily directed at the horses’ living conditions.

A warrant for the seizure of said horses was issued by KCSO on the basis of the horses being in “substandard living conditions.”
