Walters throws for pair of wins in Condon

FRIENDLY RIVALS: Bickleton’s duo of Lindsay Brown and Jamie Venema have been tearing it up on the track this year in running and field events. The girls have accounted for five firsts, four seconds and five third place finishes in 19 events this year. Brown has won the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles while Venema has won the 200 meters and was twice victorious in the pole vault. Above, at Condon, Brown (second from left) beat Venema by 0.90 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles.

Cole Walters came close to the thrower’s triple at the Condon Invitational track meet on Saturday. Walters set a personal record (PR) in the shot put with a 40 foot, three inch toss, his first time to reach the 40-foot mark. Walters followed that win by winning the discus at 114-4, not his best mark, but a good sign for the early season event. Walters’ biggest throw also set a PR, but was only good enough for second place in the javelin. His toss of 157-3 was more than 13-feet better than his previous best.

Bickleton posted five wins at the meet, helping the boys and girls to fourth place team finishes. Peter Clinton ran away with the 800 meters, setting a fast pace and holding on aga...
