State poet laureate to visit Goldendale April 26-27



Universal Language: Washington’s Poet Laureate Kathleen Flenniken will pay a visit to Goldendale April 26-27. During her visit she will spend time at Goldendale Primary School, Goldendale Library, Maryhill Museum, and cap it off with the Friday Night Poetry Reading at the Golden Art Gallery.

Poetry, a form of universal language, has sprung up in popularity over the past year in Goldendale. The Golden Art Gallery started a “Final Friday Poetry Night” in the early spring of 2011.

Annette Ruckert, who helped start the monthly event, says that the response has been overwhelming. “We have had as much as 80 people show up,” said Ruckert.

A special guest is planning a visit to the April Final Friday Poetry Night, Washington’s Poet Laureate Kathleen Flenniken.

Flenniken was appointed to this position in February and will serve as Washington’s Poet Laureate for two years.
