Wanderscheid wins invitational, teams win dual meet at Zillah

Bree Wanderscheid shot a 2-under par 68 to breeze through the field at the Wally Johnson Invitational played at SunTides Golf Course last Thursday, capping a week of winning golf for the Goldendale sophomore and Goldendale’s girls’ and boys’ teams.

On April 17, Goldendale’s teams took on Zillah and Royal at Royal City. Wanderscheid shot a 1-over par 37 for the medal and the girls’ team defeated Zillah 207 to 254. Royal did not have enough golfers for a team score. Rounding out the team scoring for Goldendale were Tessa Enwards at 54, Sawyer Ross at 56 and Natalie Hurst with a 60.

The boys’ scores were a close grouping in the low 40s to give a 168 total score, with Zillah finishing second at 202 and Royal in at 241. Justin Fields was the medalist, leading the Timberwolves with a 40. Andrew Wall shot 41, Riley Ross shot 42, and Mitch Anderson was in at 45. Goldendale’s other players were Joel Gerchak with a 46 and Tim Coulter shooting a 53.

The April 21 invitational at SunTides was for girls only with several teams from around the region participating. Wanderscheid’s 68 was 17 strokes under the runner-up, Cindy Tapia, of Naches Valley. Selah won the team title with a 382. Ephrata was second at 398 and Goldendale was third with a 413 score.

Boys and girls will take on Wahluke at Mattawa on Monday.
