William Kindler



William Arthur Kindler, Sr. passed away in Hood River on April 25, 2012 at the age of 91. He was born in Columbus, Ohio to Effa Mae (Heudiburg) and Arthur Leroy Kindler on June 28, 1920.

Bill grew up in Ohio, graduating from high school in Columbus. On January 5, 1942 he married Helen Fickel in Russell, Kentucky. Mr. Kindler joined the U.S. Navy on October 15, 1942 and served on Whidbey Island. He received an honorable discharge from military service on November 19, 1945 and moved back to Ohio. In 1953 Bill returned to Washington and worked as a salesman and manager for paper and car companies. He retired in the early 1980's and moved to White Salmon in 1985. Mr. Kindler enjoyed all types of fishing, camping and reading. He loved to be outdoors doing yard work and picking blackberries. Bill liked country and western and big band music, the company of dogs and cats and loved Hudson cars.

Survivors include his wife Helen Kindler of Hood River; sons and their wives Bill Kindler, Jr. and Trudy of Port Angeles, Washington, Bob Kindler and Sharon of Goldendale and Ned Kindler and Vickie of White Salmon; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son Thomas Kindler in 1959.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, at Grace Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Lodge, Shriners Scooter Teams, Heart of Hospice or Grace Baptist Church in care of Gardner Funeral Home, who is handling arrangements.
