Glenwood students study at mill pond

Hands-on: Students from Glenwood School enjoyed class in the outdoors last week, during an enrichment day field trip.

On May 21, Glenwood’s kindergarten through fifth grade students enjoyed an enrichment day field trip to their “community owned” forest at the Mill Pond. Students visited various stations and learned about natural resources of the area.

Jay McLaughlin and Nate Ulrich of Mt. Adams Resource Stewards, Sara McFall and Deidre Shirley with Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge and Joy Markgraf of Husum shared information on forests, wildlife and streams. Students made casts of animal tracks and caught minnows, crayfish and aquatic insects.

Students and staff also enjoyed a bonfire and making s’mores.
