Bighorn medals at State tennis


Keith Bighorn won his second medal at the State tennis tournament in Yakima, last week. The Goldenadale senior cruised through Friday matches against Anthony Verhasselt, of Tonasket and Michael Chin of Seattle Academy to make it to Saturday’s semi-finals.

Bighorn defeated Verhasselt 6-2, 6-1 and toughed out a three-set 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over Chin. Coach Carla Wilkins credited Bighorn for playing a “very patient, smart” match against Chin.

Trym Torvund, of Overlake defeated Bighorn in a pair of 6-1 sets in the semis and Bayard Blair, of University Prep took the match for third and sixth places 6-4, 6-2. Bighorn won the fifth place medal in 2011.
