Nic Venema ties vault record and Bickleton wins county gold medal count at State track and field meet

FOR THE RECORD: Nic Venema clears 12-feet, 9-inches to tie the record at the State 1B track championship meet. Venema battled Bickleton teammate Peter Clinton in the event, both matching their previous best vaults of 12-6. Venema won the event with this vault and tied Patrick Maeder for the State and school record. TLG’s Kristian Rubesh also co-owns the record.

It was a golden State track and field meet for one Klickitat County family, as Nic and Jamie Venema were the only first place winners from the county at this year’s State meet. Nic took first in the 110 meter hurdles and pole vault, while Jamie won her gold in the pole vault.

Six of the class 1B athletes from Klickitat County set new personal records (PR) at this year’s meet. Both of Nic Venema’s wins were PRs and his 12-feet, 9-inch pole vault tied the meet record and Bickleton school record.
