Sewer problems not so bad

To the Editor:

Last week’s Java Talk article regarding the library street contains a misconception. The mayor claims sewers are backing up “real bad”—but that’s not true. Only one household on our block has had sewer backup problems, indicating the feeder line, not the main sewer. Furthermore, the sewer runs in the same ditch as the water line, which is standard. That water main was dug up and replaced four years ago, and there was no harm to the trees or problem caused by the trees.

Widening our street and taking our trees supposedly “for safety” and parking is just dumb. The street would become a worse racetrack than it already is. Parking is rarely a problem. Ask those of...
