37 Timberwolves make all-league teams for spring sports


Goldendale’s top two boys and top two girl golfers were among 15 Timberwolves making first team selection for the all league teams for spring sports. Bree Wanderscheid, golfing State champion, led the way with Sawyer Ross on the girls’ side and Andrew Wall and Riley Ross for the boys. All four made it to State this year. Second team selections from golf were Tessa Enwards, Natalie Hurst, Mitch Anderson and Joel Gerchak. Hunter Cacy was honorable mention for the girls. Wall, Riley Ross and Cacy are seniors, leaving a strong group for next year, particularly with the girls since Wanderscheid, Sawyer Ross and Hurst are just sophomores.

The softball program earned respectability in the SCAC west and was rewarded with seven selections to the all league team. The battery of Haley Hoffman, pitcher and Johna Kartes, catcher were first team selections along with dependable shortstop and pitcher, Crysta Counts. Brooke Graff and Allison Hutchins were second team selections and Taylor Swift and Sarah Henderson were honorable mention. Hoffman, Kartes and Swift are the only seniors in that group.

The baseball team was also a force in the SCAC west with six selections led by pitcher/short stops Nolin Bare and Lucas Denney and second baseman Ethan Enstad making first team. Slugging third baseman, Michael Trunkey was a second team selection and Ben Cochran and Tim Bartkowski were honorable mention. Enstad, Bare and Trunkey graduate this year.

The SCAC also selected first, second and honorable mention in track and field events. Brady Conway was a double first team selection for the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Braydon Ross was first team for discus and second team for shot put. Isaac Messenger also made it in two events, first team in triple jump and second team long jump. Kenner Milliren was a first team selection for pole vault. Second team selections were Zoey Jagelski in the 200 meters , Audrey Dressel in the 400 meters and Kylie Montgomery in the shot put. Honorable mention went to Devon Casey in the 800 meters, Karri Furlong in the 100 meter hurdles, Patrick Golding in the 300 meter hurdles, Briley Cameron in the 100 meters and Sarah Lancaster in the pole vault. Conway, Ross, Montgomery, Casey and Lancaster are graduating seniors. Jagelski, Cameron and Milliren are just sophomores.

Keith Bighorn has been the singles ace for Goldendale tennis the past two years, earning the senior first team selection. In addition to Bighorn, junior Dallas Smith and sophomore Madison Holbrook teamed up to earn

honorable mention as doubles players.

Other honors for Goldendale athletes include nominations to the Yakima Valley Sports Association athlete of the year awards for Wanderscheid and Wall. Wanderscheid won the award last year, joining her brother Zach who was a three-time winner from 2008-2010.
