Projects to repair, construct bridges bring detours, delays

Last Saturday, June 23, Washington State Department of Transportation crews closed the SR 142 Klickitat River Bridge while they assemble a portable "Bailey bridge" over the existing structure. The Klickitat River Bridge will be closed around the clock during assembly. WSDOT expects to reopen the bridge before the Independence Day holiday.

We drove down to the bridge on SR142 on Saturday to take a couple pictures and see if WSDOT had started yet. The crew of approximately 30 men was using only manpower to build this military bridge, piece by piece and should be in place before the fourth of July. The Bailey bridge will be over the corroded bridge temporarily but that could mean a few years...
