Six years ago the Goldendale Free Masons started a reading program called Bikes for Books to help motivate the primary school students to read. This program is simple, students read a book, make a report of it, and put their name in the drawing for a bicycle. There are two bikes for K-2 boys and girls and two bikes for grades 3-4 boys and girls. At the end of the school year there is a drawing and the winners are announced. The Goldendale Primary School had more than 300 students participate and the total number of books read was 3500 based on tickets counted from last year.
