Gas leak causes brief evacuation


A natural gas leak last Thursday led to a brief evacuation of buildings around the intersection of Columbus and Simcoe.

At about 2:30 p.m. July 19, the Klickitat PUD dug into a lateral gas line south of their office building in the Goldendale Industrial Park. According to a press release from the PUD, the cause of the incident is still under investigation.

The PUD notified the Goldendale police department immediately about the gas leak, and they immediately implemented their emergency protocol. This included blocking off the area and evacuating buildings within about a half-mile radius. Buildings evacuated included the PUD and city hall.
