25 years ago- July 30, 1987

• Goldendale tracker, Carissa Seward, proved last weekend that she can run with the best of the pack. Fifteen year old Seward traveled to Provo, Utah to compete in The Athletic Congress National Jr. Olympic track and field meet. She bettered the field in the 3,000 meter distance event, earning gold by holding off the nation’s best in age bracket. Seward nearly equaled the feat in the shorter 1,500, but had to ‘settle’ for a silver medal and a second place.
