Virgie Lewis



Virgie Irene Lewis passed away at her home in Goldendale, Washington on August 5, 2012 surrounded by family at the age of 93. Virgie was born December 19, 1918 in Seattle, Washington to Albert and Lucy Alger.

Virgie loved horseback riding, family gatherings, gardening, canning, homemaking, animals and her grandchildren.

Virgie moved to Goldendale from Ellensburg by horseback and wagon where she settled in the Rim Rock in the late 1930's. Virgie raced horses in the Klickitat County Fair in the 1940's, she took her last horseback ride at the age of 90.

Virgie is survived by her husband Chuck V. Lewis of Goldendale; daughter Gail L. Sorensen (wife of Ronald) from Friend, Oregon; son Thomas G. Jones (Husband of Laurel) from Clearbrook, Minnesota; daughter Veryl R. Jones of Goldendale; daughter Marsha I. Morgan (significant other Steve Reynolds) of Hood River, Oregon. She was blessed by stepchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Virgie was preceded in death by son Terry A. Jones, daughter Linda K. Garrison and nine siblings.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 10 at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel in Goldendale. A reception will follow at the United Methodist Church.
