25 Years Ago – September 10, 1987

• An apparent communications breakdown between Goldendale, White Salmon, Bingen and the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office is causing a major squabble over who should pay for radio time and to upgrade the sheriff’s dispatch equipment. According to Terrance O’Conner, city manager of Goldendale, the three cities are shelling out over 21 percent of the sheriff’s annual budget and jail budget of $850,000 through property taxes which go to county general fund. These monies are then allocated to the respective county agencies by the county commissioners.
