Golden Man Triathlon draws large entry, outside interest for inaugural year

KVH WOMEN: Mindy Jackson led off with the swimming leg for the KVH Women’s team.

Saturday’s Golden Man Triathlon was deemed a big success by organizers and many of those who participated. Seventy-one people swam, cycled and ran the course for the thrill of competition in the first of what is promised to be an annual event. Parks and Recreation director, Lori Anderson said a small profit was made, mainly because they were unable to rent an automatic timing system, and planning has already begun for next year’s event.

The overall men’s individual winner was Brian Schur, of Kennewick and the individual women’s champ was Elizabeth Shephard, of Yakima. For Schur it was a chance occurrence for his entry into the race.
