CRUNCH TIME: Goldendale runners do crunches as part of their warm up to strengthen core muscles.

Goldendale’s cross country team is working on their core muscles, those muscles in the trunk of the body. “Core muscle strength keeps you running upright,” says coach Laura Thayer. “It is important for breathing.” With help from team trainer Tara Klocker, Thayer has devised a training regimen that includes several core building activities.

The Wolve are at Connell on Saturday. Five runners competed at Ellensburg on Sept. 8, led by David Gunkel with a 15:20 on the 2.35 mile course.
