Taxidermy, right job, right man, right place

HIS MASTER PIECES: Bob Butts stands with some of his taxidermy work in the Lazy Dog Taxidermy showroom. All of the animals were also shot by Butts, who’s traveled far for some of his hunting opportunities.

With the abundance of hunting in this part of the state, it is no surprise that there are several taxidermists in the area. One of them, Bob Butts, lives northwest of Goldendale on Turkey Ranch Road.

Butts has been in the business for 12 years. A one-time mason and bricklayer, Butts decided to become a taxidermist after the aluminum plant shut down. It was a decision that probably saved him a bundle, as Butts is a big time hunter who has dozens of his trophies mounted and displayed at his business.
