Cross country more than a run in the park

GOOD DAY FOR A RUN: The weather was perfect for Goldendale’s only cross country meet of the year, an SCAC league event with participation by Bickleton and Lyle-Wishram runners as well. Above, Kane Lowe (Bickleton) and Drew Bowdish (Goldendale) lead a group of runners along the Little Klickitat River.

Highland’s Jack Espinoza ran away with the race at Ekone Park in Goldendale on Thursday, finishing 43 seconds ahead of his teammate Rodrigo Ventura in a time of 17 minutes and two seconds. The two Highland runners led the Scotties in the SCAC meet involving Highland, Cle Elum, Granger and Goldendale. Six Scotties finished in the top 20 places. The highest finish for Goldendale was Will Bowdish, whose 19:24 was good enough for sixth place.

The race was a 5,000 meter run that started in Ekone Park, made a loop along the Little Klickitat River, then headed up North Columbus to High Street and back along the river to the Park. On a day like last Thursday it might have been described as enjo...
