Mattea sings of coming home

SONGS OF HOME: Country star Kathy Mattea, performing tomorrow night, has a new CD celebrating the music of her native Appalachian mountains.

Ironically, country music isn’t always about the country. It’s often very rural, but that’s not the same as being rooted in the land. Rarer still is music about the roots people have with the country. But it turns out the hills really are alive with the sound of music.

Thankfully, Kathy Mattea has captured the sound and sweep of being deeply connected to the land in her new album, Calling Me Home. The Grammy-winning country music star, who has had 16 mainstream country hits on the top 10 charts, brings that sound to Stevenson tomorrow night (Oct. 25), when she performs at 8 p.m. at the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center.
