Second quarter scoring blitz kills Wolves’ bid for upset over Leopards

RARE STOP: Zillah’s Kurt Calhoun is stopped for a short gain by a pack of Timberwolves. At the bottom of the pile is Ben Cochran, with Reggie Sargeant (57) and Tim Bartkowski helping wrap up the Leopard runner.

A second quarter lapse in execution opened the door for Zillah to storm over the Timberwolves 41-21, last Friday. The loss secured first place in the SCAC for the Leopards and put Goldendale in a must win situation this Friday at Granger.

Goldendale used a balanced offensive attack to open the game with the first score on a well-conceived drive that hit pay dirt on a 10 yard pass from Lucas Denney to Devan McGraw. Jair Garcia converted the extra point and Goldendale looked prepared to give Zillah a difficult night. The Leopards tied the game late in the first quarter on an 85-yard punt return by Brady Widner.
