Dispute over sacred songs in school Christmas concert leads to program change


A complaint last week from an atheist parent about sacred songs in this year’s Goldendale School District’s Christmas concert resulted in a one-day suspension of the music teacher and a change in the district’s annual winter music program.

The parent, now living in California but whose child is still enrolled in Goldendale, protested that her child was expected to sing sacred music against her will and complained that the student was being bullied and harassed over the matter by music teacher Doug Siegel.
