Trout Lake News

On Saturday, Nov. 3, the Friends of Mount Adams had their second annual science based conference about Mount Adams. This year the subject was the Flora and Fauna of Mount Adams. It was quite interesting to learn, among other facts, that the low land red fox occurring around Trout Lake is an eastern migrant, possibly arriving in the West as an escapee from fur farms. The only native fox in Washington state is the Cascade Red Fox which lives at higher elevations on Mount Adams, Mt. Rainier and in the Goat Rocks Wilderness area. The conference was chock full of this and other interesting information, the lunch was good and the chocolate cookies were superb. All in all worth the price.
