Sheriff’s Department says it’s forced to cut hours


On Nov. 4, Klickitat County Sheriff’s Department deputies began patrolling the communities and roadways of Klickitat County 38 hours a week per officer, instead of 40, raising questions about economics, crime, and the upcoming 2013 Sheriff’s Department budget.

As the Sheriff’s Department and County Board of Commissioners spend hours every week wading through the weeds of the 2013 budget, both sides hope they can find the golden middle ground where the law enforcement needs of the citizens are met along with the economic needs of the county.
