New Faces: The Greater Goldendale Chamber of Commerce has three new members on the board. Joe Sellers, Nam Sun Whitner and Martha Slater joined the current board for a morning breakfast meeting at Golden Coyote Coffee last Thursday.

The Greater Goldendale Area Chamber of Commerce completed 2012 with the election of three new board members and their 2013 officers. New board members are all longtime residents and business owners in Goldendale; Joe Sellers, Joe’s Towing; Martha Slater, The Pink Saddle; and Nam Sun Whitner, Ponderosa Motel. Chamber board member terms are for three years, and may be elected to serve a second term. Following two consecutive terms, a director must be off the board for at least one year before they are eligible to be nominated again.

Retiring directors are Karen Henslee, Goldendale Sentinel general manager, Jeanne Morgan, owner of Golden Photo Services, and Tom Ireland, retired owner of Ireland Excavating. Ireland, who was the 2012 President, will sit on the 2013 board as past-president.

The elected officers for 2013 are president, Mike DeMott; vice president, Barbara Robinson; and treasurer Ron Confer.

Social media has come into its own. It seems individuals, organizations and businesses all either have a social media page, reference social media pages, or both. Rather than hearing it “through the grapevine”, we now read it on Facebook, Twitter, or other electronic social media. The Chamber has developed two Facebooks, Goldendale Chamber of Commerce which is a bulletin board for specific business news, and Goldendale Chamber which is the social side of the chamber ad for their service area.

Recently a letter was sent to all businesses, organizations and churches requesting information on all their 2013 events. We want to post it on the Goldendale Chamber Facebook with the Klickitat 52 logo. We do not need to be the best kept secret. It is time we were discovered, and the variety of activities are nearly endless! Don’t sit back, become an active contributing part of Klickitat 52! Questions, ideas?
