Thayer addresses Chamber as 16 year tenure winds down

WRAP-UP: Commissioner Ray Thayer reflected on his time as county commissioner during his address to the Chamber of Commerce.

Ray Thayer reflected on his 16 years as Klickitat County Commissioner, during his address at the Greater Goldendale Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Monday. Thayer chose not to run for re-election and will retire from the position at the end of the month.

On Thayer’s list of accomplishments are:

SWORN IN: Rex Johnston and Jim Sizemore were sworn in by Judge Brian Altman at ceremonies in the courthouse on Monday.

• Improvements at the Klickitat County fairgrounds, mainly the addition of the Joan Frey Arena and securing 40 acres for development.

• The Dallesport waste water treatment system.

• The county radio system, which, when finished, will be a first class system, according to Thayer.

• Joint ownership of the airport at Dallesport.

• Funding the building of three community fire halls.

Thayer’s replacement, Jim Sizemore was sworn in on Monday, along with Rex Johnston, who won re-election. Superior Court Judge Brian Altman presided over the ceremonies at the courthouse.
