Forest thinning services available to residents

THINNING OUT: Forest thinning helps minimize fire impact in heavily wooded areas and might have helped in the Monastery Complex Fire last year. The track of that fire is visible in this picture.

Local Goldendale resident Mark Jobe has recently founded Dominion Ranch Services LLC (DRS), a forest health management and timber thinning company which operates at almost no cost to the customer.

“We set out on our own to thin our forest and found that it was an incredible amount of work,” says Jobe, “We found that a lot of our neighbors needed help too and that there was government money out there to help property owners take care of their forest.”

Jobe and his wife purchased a 42-acre parcel of forest land near Satus Pass four years ago under the condition that they create a forest management plan to stay in Klickitat County’s Current Use Timber Program. The property had an...
