Venema’s 13 point quarter keys Pirate win at Mabton


There is nothing like a win to set the stage for the Christmas break, particularly in a close, hard-fought battle. There was really no reason for the Lady Pirates to expect a win at Mabton against the Viking JV team. Leading scorer, Jamie Venema sat out much of the third quarter with four fouls and Mabton was in control 35-21 at the start of the fourth quarter. Lacking depth in the line-up, Bickleton had pulled up eighth-grader, Hali O’Banion who was to play an important role in the come-from-behind 44-43 win.
